January 2009
3 new garden beds have been established late last year, significantly reducing the lawn area above the lake. The first flanks the drive to the end cottage and houses 100 correas. A couple plants are weak links but overall all is going well. 100m3 of good quality garden soil were trucked in to form 2 raised beds. One is to house only grevilleas, probably about 60 when completed. The other will house a range of up to 100 small plants, including numerous verticordias and eremophilas. Numerous unusual and uncommon plants are included.
Last year we had a "little win." At the beginning of the year we were emailed from England asking for photos for a book being published by the Automobile Association which would include gardens worldwide. At the end of October we had in our hot little hands our complimentary copy of a hard cover, 256 page book in full colour featuring 66 gardens worldwide. Katandra Gardens was the only Australian garden included. "Inspirational Gardens - Spectacular Designs and Planting from around the world." by Pamela Westland - AA Publishing in UK.

At the end of last November we had a delegation of Mayors from Guizhou province in China. They thoroughly enjoyed the gardens and especially the soft grass. Their certificates of completion of a course they did at RMIT were presented in our garden room and a very enjoyable time was had by all. They especially enjoyed meeting our grandson William who has the best of looks from his Australian/Chinese parents. (Say the proud grandparents.)

GREETINGS TO ALL OUR FRIENDS HERE IN AUSTRALIA AND ALSO OVERSEAS
