Chinese Visitors take in our culture and enjoy an Aussie barbecue. In April Katandra Gardens was host to a delegation of 19 academics from the Chinese Academic and Graduate Education Development Centre. Mr Xin Tan Project Manager of the Australian-China International Association, the Chinese government official agent for hosting official delegates to Australia said the group came to Australia to communicate with Australian Universities. Before they left Melbourne Mr Xin Tan organized the visit to Katandra Gardens where the group were able to experience some real Australian hospitality and the scents, colours and feel of the Australian native plants. An Australian barbecue was a highlight of the visit. As the interpreter said, it is good for the group to have time away to meet Australian people and talk to them. Some of the delegates were eager to try out their cooking skills. It was a delightful, relaxed group which relished the opportunity to relax away from the pressures of business. Before they left Dot and Bob, the owners of Katandra Gardens were presented with gifts by Mr Feng Zhimin Assistant President of Ningbo Univeresity. Dot was presented with a beautiful Wensli silk scarf Whilst Bob was presented with a set of ancient Chinese Music Bells. As Bob said, "Visits such as this can only serve to make the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges a preferred tourist destination for Chinese tourists in the future."
